小滋味
"Authentic Chinese. No shortcuts."
"Ching Tao was born from a simple idea: that the best Chinese food has never been about trends — it has always been about small flavours done properly."
In the laneways of old China, food wasn't flashy. It was cooked early, cooked fresh, and cooked with care.
Markets woke before sunrise. Sauces were balanced by hand. Recipes were passed quietly — not written down, but remembered.
Ching Tao honours the path of homestyle Chinese cooking: honest ingredients, familiar flavours, food made to be shared.
At Ching Tao, we don't chase fusion or fashion. We cook the way it's always been done — with respect, restraint, and heart.
Markets wake before sunrise. Ingredients are selected daily. Nothing sits, nothing waits — everything is cooked to order.
Every dumpling is folded by hand. Every sauce is balanced by hand. Recipes are remembered, not just followed.
Our menu is inspired by meals that fed families and communities. Honest ingredients, familiar flavours — food made to be shared.
Sasha Liu, the owner of Ching Tao Chinese Restaurant, grew up in the coastal city of Qingdao, China — a place famous for its seafood, lively markets, and deeply rooted food traditions.
In Qingdao, food was always at the centre of life. Families gathered around tables filled with small dishes, dumplings were folded by hand, and recipes were shared through generations. These early experiences shaped Sasha's understanding of what Chinese food should be — honest, comforting, and made with care.
In 2011, Sasha moved to Australia to begin a new chapter of her life. She spent years working in restaurant kitchens across Melbourne, learning the rhythm of the industry and building the skills needed to run a kitchen of her own. During this time, she gained valuable knowledge in many styles of Chinese cooking, particularly Cantonese cuisine.
But no matter where she worked, Sasha never forgot the flavours of her hometown. The dumplings of Qingdao — simple, handmade, and full of flavour — stayed close to her heart. After more than a decade of dedication to the craft, that dream finally became reality.
Today, Ching Tao is Sasha's vision brought to life — a restaurant where handmade dumplings, wok classics, and traditional Cantonese favourites are prepared with care, respect, and a deep connection to the flavours of home.
Ching Tao is more than just a restaurant. It is a way to share a piece of Qingdao with the community she now calls home.
"It's often the simplest things, done well, that stay with you the longest."
Inspired by meals that fed families and communities — not special occasions, but everyday life.
Familiar flavours that don't need explaining. The kind of food that feels comforting.
Every dish arrives at the table ready to be shared — because that's how food is meant to be enjoyed.
We don't chase fusion or fashion. We cook the way it's always been done — with respect and heart.
Welcome to Ching Tao.
